Wrap Up

     

    My overall experience in IS101 was one of one and I’ve taken a plethora of classes at CSN. The workload was a lot, but the assignments weren’t too complicated. My classmates were all nice and the instructor Albert Wu was good. You can tell he wants his students to be successful. What I gained from this class was more business etiquette like proper email formatting and how to use common applications in most industries. I chose topic 6.6.7 SmartArt and Shape Tips. I like SmartArt because it allows you to present information in a cool way that will grasp an audience’s attention. I am overall pleased with my experience in IS101 and am very excited for break because I deserve it! One more semester then I'll be a graduate. 

The End is Near

    I think I will remember a lot of the information from Excel because a lot of it is straight forward or basic math formulas. I also feel like it depends on the scope of how you're using Excel because it can be used in more technical ways but I for sure have the basics down. A6 will test if I actually know how to use Excel but I think it will go well. I chose 5.7.8- Advanced Function Facts. I enjoyed this segment the most because it was the most challenging but helped me understand the functions used in Excel. It is completely based on numbers, so it was nice to refresh on my basic math skills. I know ideally, I want to be more than an average student but it's hard for me to go above and beyond in this class for some reason. I unfortunately don't prioritize all of my classes the same which I feel like contributes to why I only do the required assignments. I think I would be more engaged if it was more focused on cyber security.

Crunch Time

    I think I did okay in the first phase of IS101. One thing I will do differently for these upcoming phases is not procrastinate as much and try to get more ahead in the chapters not just going weekly by the syllabus. In section 4.5.5: Formatting Paragraph Facts, I found the show/hide feature to be helpful. I have never used this feature before so it was helpful to see how text can be arranged. The most I would do in grade school is standard paragraph alignment and using Tab. I will prepare for the upcoming MO-110 exam by doing the practice test. Anything I struggle with I will review it so that I can get a better understanding. I can’t wait for all my hard work to pay off so I can go on unlimted vacations.

Self Introduction

     Hello everyone, my name is Alicia Jones and I'm from Las Vegas, Nevada. My major is Network Security and my expected graduation date is May 2026. This is my first year learning about IT, before I was interested in the medical field. IT sparked my interest because it's a continually growing field. It's important to know how it works because it will forever be a part of our everyday lives. I'm truly excited for this new learning and career opportunity and anxious to see where it takes me.

    The first impression of IS101 was overwhelming because there were over 50 Canvas assignments just from this class. That initially made me want to procrastinate doing the work. However, now I see it's really just a lot of reading tasks and labs. The assignments are lengthy which can be intimidating at first glance, but once you read through it carefully and not overthink it starts to make sense. I believe this class will have an overall improvement on my digital etiquette.

    I am very experienced when it comes to social media platforms. I am 22 so I was able to see the evolution of brands like Apple and how their apps have changed. I have also been on social media since I was about 12 so to see how much it has changed in only 10 years is interesting. In high school, I ran our Instagram account for Black Student Union and I would post weekly updates and information. I've had no choice but to learn how to work social media apps since it's one of the most popular forms of entertainment. With the emergence of AI, I can't wait to see what new platforms will be created.
